Croydon Libraries Internet acceptable use policy

Please note that by using our internet service you are agreeing to the terms and conditions below.

Croydon Libraries provides free public access computers to allow access to the internet and email; Microsoft Office applications; and the library service’s collection of online resources.

Croydon Libraries are used by the whole community, by people of all ages and therefore we have a responsibility to ensure that the usage is appropriate.

All users must use their own library card number to access the computers.

Access to computers is available to all. However, children and young people under the age of 16 may use the library computers only if they have been given written permission to do so by a parent or guardian.

Croydon Libraries uses filters to block inappropriate sites, images and chat rooms. However, no filtering system can be 100% effective as new websites are created all the time.

Library staff cannot supervise children’s use of computers and the Council will not take responsibility for sites viewed by them. If parents have any concerns, it is their responsibility to supervise their child’s use of the computer. Children under the age of 8 may not use the computers without adult supervision.

Croydon Libraries use frequently updated virus checking software, but the Council cannot guarantee to prevent viruses entering the system.

Users must not attempt to damage the set up of the computers or interfere with the physical state of the computer equipment, including any labelling.

Please remember that this service is provided in a public place. The loading, displaying or viewing of violent, sexually explicit or other material which might be offensive to other library users is prohibited. Downloading or accessing certain material could constitute a criminal offence.

If anyone is discovered contravening any of the above, they will be asked to leave the building immediately. Further action may be taken at the discretion of the senior member of staff on duty.
